Glow Up: Your Stay-At-Home Guide to Glowing Skin

There’s nothing quite like feeling good — really good — in your own skin.

No matter your age, healthy skin has an irresistible energy and glow. Below, our guide to get glowing skin in seven steps — right now, at home.

Do a One-Week Skincare Reset

If you’re dealing with any type of skin imperfection (breakouts, redness, irritation, rash, excessive dryness or oiliness), the first step is to make sure the issue isn’t caused by a product — which is more common than you’d think. This reset will make sure the products you use every day aren’t ruining your complexion!

For one week, stay out of the sun and scale your skincare regimen back to the basics — a gentle, unscented cleanser and light moisturizer. Cutting back on the rest will give your skin a chance to breathe and help restore its natural health and beauty.

This also means no makeup! If you struggle with breakouts, this is a great way to pinpoint which products are working (and which ones aren’t!) to improve the health of your skin.

Tip: For best results, try not to pick at blemishes. Avoid touching any problem areas and allow them to heal on their own. This can help avoid the development of dark spots, inflammation, and scarring.

Identify Your Essentials

Once your reset week is over, it’s pretty safe to assume that any lingering issues are not the result of a product.

If you’re happy with your complexion, continue using the same cleanser and moisturizer. If you’re not, you may need to switch it up.

Consider swapping your current products out for formulas with active ingredients that target your individual skincare concerns (like acne, dryness, or signs of aging). Active ingredients are responsible for delivering the proposed benefits of a product, meaning the product will do what it says it will.

The types of active ingredients you’re looking for will depend on the specific skin issues you need to address. Salicylic acid is a common acne-fighting ingredient, while natural anti-aging products often feature skin-loving antioxidants like vitamin A/retinoids, vitamin C and vitamin E.

Tip: The FDA requires skincare ingredients to be labeled with the primary ingredient listed first. That means the very first ingredient you see listed on a product label is the one that makes up the highest percentage of the product.

Start Every Morning with Vitamin C

No matter your skin type, there’s a lot vitamin C can do for your skin. Studies have shown that it acts as a powerful antioxidant, helps fight free radicals, boosts collagen formation, and brightens dark spots.

Make it a habit every morning for skin that is noticeably brighter, smoother, and glowier.

Tip: It’s best to apply vitamin C serum right after cleansing or, if you don’t cleanse in the morning, first thing before any other products.

Use a Hydrating Oil or Cream

Give your vitamin C a few minutes to sink in, then hydrate. It may seem obvious, but moisturizing is essential when it comes to dewy, glowing skin.

Face creams work well here, as do hydrating oils. Don’t skip this step — proper hydration is the secret to any good glow up!

Exfoliate

Old, dead skin cells on the surface of your skin can dull even the glowiest complexion underneath. Even worse, dead skin cells can actually block your skincare products from being properly absorbed (wasting all the time AND money you’ve put in to perfecting your complexion!).

That’s why exfoliating is so important — it removes the dry, dead skin cells on top to reveal fresh, healthy cells underneath.

If you’re not familiar with the process, check out our guide to understanding the benefits of exfoliation for the skin.

Tip: Don’t overdo it. For most skin types, exfoliating 1-2 times per week is plenty. The key is to pay attention to how your skin looks and feels after exfoliation. Over time, you’ll begin to sense the right timing for your skin.

Supercharge Skin with a Mask

Masking is a great way to infuse your skin with moisture and nutrients (even while you sleep)!

Made with hyaluronic acid and ultra-nourishing oat extract, this five star face mask will fortify and reset your skin’s tone and texture. Leave it on overnight for dewy, fresh, glowing skin in the morning.

Reset Lips

For a luminous finish, focus on your lips. This volumizing lip scrub and mask duo works to quench, nourish, and gently exfoliate, leaving lips plump, smooth and soft.

Sugar crystals naturally scrub away flakes while a natural humectant combines with kiss-me-quick extract to restore moisture for healthy, hydrated lips. The combination of gritty (the scrub) and hydrating (the mask) ingredients help prepare lips for balms, lipsticks, and other moisturizing treatments.

Minutes of work for fuller-looking lips that last for hours. Consider your at-home glow up complete!
